Introducing Becci and Stacey!

We're thrilled that both Becci,
Outreach Worker, and Stacey, Trust Fundraiser, have recently joined the staff here at SMA UK!

Becci, Outreach Worker

"Hi Everyone!

My name is Rebecca Howell (although everyone calls me Becci), and I have recently joined SMA UK as an Outreach and Support Worker; thank you to everyone who has made me feel so welcome already.

I have worked within health and social care for around seventeen years, starting this journey as an Occupational Therapy Assistant. I am now a qualified Social Worker and whilst training and later working have been within the fields of childcare, fostering, hospital and community based social work (with adults) and most recently adult rehabilitation. Prior to joining SMA UK I managed a multi-disciplinary rehabilitation service within South Wales for six years.

I am thrilled to be an employee at SMA UK, having accessed the community as a relative in the past, as both my mother and brother have SMA Type 3, (my brother also has rheumatoid arthritis). I have seen how important mechanisms for support are to both physical and mental well-being, and I feel privileged to be in a position where I am able to support those affected by SMA and their families.

I look forward to meeting you later in the year as opportunities allow, and in the meantime virtually!"

Stacey, Trust Fundraiser

"Hello,

My name is Stacey and I joined SMA UK at the end of May 2022 as the new Trust Fundraiser. The last couple of years have been busy for me, after getting married in March 2020 (just before COVID) being in lockdown and then having my baby daughter in January 2021.

Having worked in the travel industry for over 20 years in marketing, I was unexpectedly made redundant during the pandemic. However, using my transferable skills has meant making the transition into the charity sector a seamless move, and I am absolutely delighted to be part of SMA UK. The team have welcomed me with open arms, and I am learning more and more about SMA each day.

As the landscape for SMA is ever evolving, I feel privileged to be able to work in this space, playing a key role in sourcing income from generous Trusts and Foundations which help develop the work SMA UK is doing both now and for the future."
