Online Event: Newborn Screening: "What Should Be Screened For and How?"

14 October 2021

The free-to-attend online event: "Newborn Screening: What Should Be Screened for and How?", produced by the Progress Educational Trust (PET) with the support of Novartis, will be taking place on 3rd November, 5.30-7.30pm.

Only nine conditions are currently screened for in newborns in the UK. This is fewer than in other high-income countries, in Europe and elsewhere, where the number of conditions screened for in newborns often exceeds 20 or 30. In recent years, patient groups and others have asked for conditions, including SMA, to be added to the nine that are currently screened for, but this has not been done.

This event will see the Director of Programmes for the UK National Screening Committee, and other experts and advocates, discuss what should be screened for in newborns and how. Speakers will include Professor Anne Mackie – Director of Programmes for the UK National Screening Committee – as well as Professor Laurent Servais, Dr Will Evans and Nick Meade.
