Information about SMA

Our information sheets and guides are particularly helpful if you are new to SMA. They cover a range of information, starting from ‘What Is 5q SMA?’ to guides for those who have had a recent diagnosis.

Our Community Support Team

We support families with children and young people who have SMA, adults who have SMA, and those bereaved by SMA. This can be by email, phone, Zoom, text and, when we have capacity, home-visiting. We also support health professionals.

Living With SMA

This area of our website aims to provide information and links on a whole range of topics. It is based on knowledge and advice from the SMA Community and SMA UK’s Support Services Team.

Our Grants for the SMA Community

SMA UK offer two grant schemes.

Counselling Service

SMA UK is working in partnership with Rareminds to offer a free, confidential counselling service for those affected by SMA aged 18+.

Connect with Others

We can link people up with others also affected by SMA. There are various ways this can happen, including at face to face events and through our community networks.

Multisensory Toypacks

Available free of charge in the UK, these are suitable for infants up to 12 months of age. If a child is older, we may be able to help parents / carers access other suitable toys.

Bereaved by SMA

Developments in treatment has brought great hope to many, but sadly some forms of SMA can still be life-threatening.
