Nusinersen is routinely available to children who have SMA Type 1.

Since July 2019, it can be prescribed for all those who have SMA Types 2 or 3 under the ultra-orphan pathway for a period of up to three years while further evidence on its effectiveness is generated.

In Scotland, the following paediatric centres offer assessment for and treatment with nusinersen:

  • Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital
  • Nine Wells Hospital – Dundee
  • Royal Hospital for Sick Children Edinburgh
  • Royal Hospital for Children Glasgow
