This is a grant from SMA UK used for assistance to access an NHS funded treatment or assessment.

Decisions are made quickly and though there is no means testing, we do ask everyone to keep in mind that these funds are limited. A maximum grant of £500 may be made every year. In very exceptional circumstances this upper limit may be higher.

Applications can be completed by:

Parents of children who have SMA

Adults living with SMA

Health Professional on behalf of an individual.

There should be a discussion between the referring NHS Trust and the treating / assessment NHS Trust about travel and accommodation costs that should be provided by the NHS. If there are additional unavoidable costs, applications may be made for:
