This is a grant from SMA UK used for assistance with items or funds that support independence and alleviate hardship

Decisions are made quickly and though there is no means testing, we do ask everyone to keep in mind that these funds are limited. A maximum grant of £600 may be made every year. In very exceptional circumstances, or for a specific piece of equipment, this upper limit may be higher.

Applications can be completed by:

  • Parents of children who have SMA
  • Adults living with SMA
  • Health professional on behalf of an individual.

There is no set list as the grant is needs-led for urgent items or to support immediate hardship. Equipment grants may only be provided if an item is not statutory funded. Unfortunately we are unable to support with housing adaptions and home improvements.

Applications may be made for items such as:

  • Car seats
  • Small aids/equipment
  • Portable seating e.g. Go-to seat
  • Small urgently needed household items that support your care needs
  • To alleviate immediate hardship

Applications should be supported by a physio / OT letter when equipment is required and any quotes for the item attached.
