Can we apply for a grant to attend privately provided assessments, or privately provided treatments that could be ongoing?
We will only fund the additional costs of attending assessments or treatment where the referral has been made by the NHS and the assessment or treatment is funded by the NHS.
How quickly will I hear if I have a grant?
We will let you know we have received your application. Decisions are made quickly.
Can I choose how to travel?
Yes. You can travel by car, public transport, or taxi.
When you apply, we will need the mileage from your home address to the hospital. Our grants cover mileage at 15p per mile. If travelling by bus or train we will need to know the full cost of any ticket, there and back. We can pay parking fees.
Can I choose and book my own accommodation near to the hospital?
Yes, if the NHS is unable to provide accommodation for you, you can book a hotel room near to the hospital. We ask you to look for a Travel Lodge, Premier Inn, etc. We are unable fund more expensive hotels.
Can I pay for my trip and then apply?
We can arrange for the grant to paid to you in advance of your appointment
If your appointment was more than a month ago we are unable to give you a grant.
Can I apply for this and other SMA UK grants at the same time?
You may make an application for this grant and Flexi Grant 2 > once a year.
You can make an application to the SMART Moves Fund > once a year.
Each application must be for something different. Each Grant has its own criteria.
