Yesterday, 21st October, the Government called for members of the public as well as NHS staff and key experts to share their experiences, ideas and views for resolving issues within the NHS.

Made available via the NHS App until the beginning of 2025, views can be submitted Change NHS Online Platform to help shape the Government’s 10 Year Health Plan which is due to be published in spring 2025.

Health and Social Care Secretary Wes Streeting said:

“The 3 big shifts will be our key principles for reform and will revolutionise the way people manage their health and access care. Our reforms will also shift the NHS away from late diagnosis and treatment to a model where more services are delivered in local communities and illnesses are prevented in the first place.”

The plan will review three shifts in healthcare:

  • Hospital to community: delivering plans for new neighbourhood health centres enabling patients to see various healthcare professionals under the same roof.
  • Analogue to digital: bringing together a single patient record that summarises all health information, test results and letters in one place through the NHS App, putting patients in control of their own medical history and giving healthcare professionals a holistic view.
  • Sickness to prevention: aiming to prevent illnesses before they happen and exploring technology options that allow patients to monitor their health from their own homes.

Giles Lomax, CEO of SMA UK, said:

“Todays announcement provides everyone from the SMA community the opportunity to shape the future of the NHS through the Government’s new 10 year health plan by sharing experiences of facing significant challenges from time of diagnosis, access to treatment and care provisions across the country.

The new government must listen and tailor their long term plans to improve the lives of people living with SMA allowing for a modern NHS service to be more predictive, more preventative and more personalised. It’s so important for the SMA community to share their views through the Change NHS online platform“
