Last summer, as part of the KnowNoBounds Campaign, Maxwell McKnight took on the epic challenge of climbing Mount Snowdon in Wales! Between him and Josh Wintersgill (the front man for the campaign) they have raised an amazing £41,366 for SMA UK to fund the purchase of an off-road wheelchair for the SMA Community.

“Embracing strength, breaking barriers, and redefining what’s possible. Recently, I climbed Mount Snowdon in a powered wheelchair to raise awareness for outdoor accessibility and SMA UK. It was one of the hardest challenges of my life, with moments of danger and triumph, like being carried up the last 500 meters in a manual wheelchair.” – Maxwell McKnight (Quote taken from @vimHealthcare)

Now, with thanks to the support of Lifestyle and Mobility, Sunrise Medical, JOST Explore along with major support from The Stelios Foundation we are delighted to announce that we have purchased a brand new Extreme X8 4-wheel drive off-road powered wheelchair and will be working in partnership with Mobility Hire to offer a free hire scheme for the SMA Community.

Launch event

On the 12th March we hosted a launch event with support from The Stelios Foundation at their offices in London, attended by those who have supported the campaign and the purchase of the chair. In memory of one of SMA UK’s trustees, Clare Gray, who sadly passed away last year, the chair is called “Limitless” giving members of the SMA Community the opportunity to explore areas of the great outdoors that might otherwise be inaccessible.

Hire of the Extreme X8

Through our partners, Motability Hire we will soon be offering members of the SMA Community the opportunity to hire the Extreme X8 out for a 2-3 week period completely free of charge!

If you are interested in hiring the Extreme X8 wheelchair please fill out this expression of interest form.
