These grants are to assist with buying items that support independence and alleviate hardship.
What will we fund?
We are happy to consider any request that will support your independence or alleviate hardship. Please note, however that we do not fund or contribute to:
- equipment or services that should be provided by the NHS or Social Services
- large household items
- adaptations
- holidays
- debts
Applications for a grant for mobility equipment need to be made to our SMArt Moves Scheme >
How much can I apply for?
A maximum grant of £600 may be made every year
This grant is paid directly to the supplier and cannot be issued directly to the person.
We do not means-test, but we do ask everyone to keep in mind that these funds are limited.
If your application is for more than £600, we will work with you to try to get all the funding you need. In some very exceptional circumstances, we may increase the upper limit.
Who can apply?
Applications may be completed by:
- Parents of children who have SMA
- Adults living with SMA
- Health Professionals on behalf of an individual.
How do I apply?
You will need to complete our application form and attach:
- a letter confirming your diagnosis
- a quote or invoice for any item – so that we can pay the supplier directly
If your application is for personal equipment, you will need a supporting letter from your OT or Physio to say that that it is suitable for you and meets your needs.
