SMA UK warmly invites families and carers in the SMA community to Picnic in the Park 2026, a fun, summer festival-themed day full of entertainment, connection, and support. This year are inviting you all to come in your favourite superhero outfits and take part in a fundraising fun run too! 

Each ticket provides entry for up to five people. To help us plan the best experience, please provide as much information as possible about those attending.

Enjoy tea, coffee, and light refreshments, along with a variety of children’s entertainment throughout the day. Families are encouraged to bring their own picnics, relax, and spend quality time with the SMA UK team and members of the community. 

This year, we’re running the event longer than usual, finishing with a kids’ disco to end the day with music, dancing, and fun.

We are also inviting Superheroes of all ages to join us to take part in an inclusive and fun Superhero obstacle course!  Dress up as your favourite hero and help to ‘save the day’ by completing the course.  If you would like to ask family and friends to sponsor you and you raise £50 or more then we will send you a thank you certificate and medal after the event.  Click here and click on the Start Fundraising button to set up a fundraising page.

Location: Holiday Inn Basildon, Cranes Farm Road, Waterfront Walk, Festival Leisure Park, Basildon, SS14 3DG – in the Elizabeth Suite 

How to Join: Register online and bring your booking confirmation on the day (phone or print). Attendance is free for people with SMA, their immediate family, carers, and bereaved families.

Accessibility: Step-free access, accessible toilets, blue badge parking, wheelchair-friendly spaces. Contact us if you have specific requirements. 

What to Bring: Picnic lunch (optional), any specialist equipment, weather-appropriate items for outdoor space. 

Photography: 
Photography may take place during the event. Let us know if you prefer not to be included. Children must be supervised by a parent or carer at all times.
