Did you know your donation could be worth more to charity, while costing you less?

Make Your Donation Go Further with Gift Aid

With Gift Aid, every £1 you donate becomes £1.25 for the charity you support, at no extra cost to you. This is because charities can reclaim the basic rate tax already paid on your donation.

Even Better for Higher-Rate Taxpayers

If you pay a higher or additional rate of tax, you could personally benefit too—by claiming extra tax relief.

Here’s how it works:

  • Basic rate taxpayers: a £1 donation effectively costs you 80p, while the charity receives £1.25
  • Higher rate taxpayers: that same £1 donation could cost you just 60p
  • Additional rate taxpayers: it could cost as little as 55p

A Real Example

If you donate £1,000 using Gift Aid:

  • The charity receives £1,250
  • If you’re a higher-rate taxpayer, you can claim back £250

That means your £1,000 donation could actually cost you just £750.

How to Claim Your Tax Relief

Claiming is simple:

  • If you complete a Self Assessment tax return, just include your Gift Aid donations
  • If you don’t, you can contact HMRC or update your Personal Tax Account to receive the relief through your tax code
