Hazel is a research scientist at the University of Glasgow, where she leads a laboratory investigating the biological processes involved in neurodegenerative diseases, including SMA.

Her research focuses on improving understanding of how the environment surrounding neurons, including blood vessels and supporting cells, can influence the onset, progression and severity of disease. Through this work, Hazel aims to identify new approaches that could be used to treat conditions affecting the brain and spinal cord.
