The most optimal treatment for any individual will be based on a number of medical considerations, and individual patient’s choice.

Most specialist neuromuscular centres will be able to treat eligible patients with nusinersen.

If you are no longer in touch with your specialist neuromuscular centre, you should contact either the centre where you received care previously or your nearest centre. Some people who were diagnosed a long time ago may not have had a confirmed diagnosis of 5q autosomal recessive SMA via an SMN1 gene deletion test, in which case they should discuss genetic testing with their clinical team.
