Thank you to everyone who took part in two fantastic Golf Days this month in support of Isabel Turk’s Angel Fund.

Phil Smith, this year’s Club Captain at Cirencester Golf Club, is a close family friend of Isabel’s family and has chosen SMA UK as his charity of the year. His Captain’s Day brought together more than 150 players and raised almost £4,000, with fundraising set to continue throughout the rest of the year.

Just a few days later, the Turk family held their annual Golf Day at Lansdown Golf Club. Organised by Isabel’s grandad, the event raised more than £1,200 to support SMA UK and the work of Isabel Turk’s Angel Fund. Isabel sadly passed away from SMA in 2004 when she was just 6 months old.

A huge thank you to everyone who played, volunteered, donated prizes, sponsored the events and helped make both days such a success. Every pound raised will help us continue supporting people affected by SMA.

Why organise a charity golf day?

These two fantastic events are a brilliant reminder of just how effective charity golf days can be. Whether you’re a golf club captain, a regular member or simply have friends and family who enjoy the game, organising a golf day is a fun and rewarding way to bring people together while raising vital funds.

Golf days don’t have to be complicated. Many clubs already host captain’s days, society days or annual competitions, making it easy to incorporate fundraising through entry fees, raffles, auctions, nearest-the-pin competitions, sponsorship or donations.

They’re also a fantastic opportunity for local businesses to get involved by sponsoring holes, donating prizes or supporting refreshments, helping to maximise the funds raised while giving something back to the local community.

Thinking of organising your own?

If you’ve ever thought about hosting a charity golf day, we’d love to hear from you. Our fundraising team can provide everything you need to get started, including fundraising materials, ideas to help make your event a success and support every step of the way.

Whether it’s a captain’s charity day, a club competition or a friendly day with colleagues and friends, your event could make a real difference to people living with SMA.

The money raised helps SMA UK continue to provide trusted information, practical support and advocacy for everyone affected by SMA, while campaigning for improved care, access to treatments and a brighter future for the whole community.

Once again, thank you to Phil Smith, the members of Cirencester Golf Club, the Turk family, everyone at Lansdown Golf Club, and every player and supporter who helped make these events such a wonderful success. We can’t wait to see what next year’s golf season brings!
